A. At Mad Science, our special events can fit any type of event that you are hosting. For example, our special events can take the form of shows, science days and fairs, and science booths.
Q. How many children can a show accommodate?
A. Between 30 and 150 children at a time. We can adjust our shows to the size of your venue and to your budget.
Q.Why do you limit the number of children per show?
A. The interactive nature of our shows is part of what makes them unique and fun. We limit the size of the group in order to involve more children from each classroom and also to allow all of the kids to feel more involved in teh show. Q. How long does a show last?
A. We offer 45-60 minute shows based upon your preference and we can run 5 shows per day, with a 15 minute interval between each. We typically schedule a full hour for each repetition - even if the show is 45 minutes, it also takes 150 children some time to get in and out of the room. Science days, fairs and activity booths can be booked as full day events.
Q. What kind of space is best suited to a Mad Science Special Event?
A. An ideal event location would be an area with an open space for the children to sit on the floor. Mad Science special events generally work best when held indoors. However, they can be performed outdoors, weather permitting, where shelter from the wind and access to electricity can be provided.
Q. Do we need to provide Mad Science with any equipment?
A. For each scheduled show and activity station, we will require an 8-foot long banquet-style table to place our equipment on. Depending on the show you select, we may need access to an electrical outlet, access to a sink and/or water along with a sink to rinse out and clean our glassware and other equipment after the event. If there is a stage, we can often use the front of the stage (in front of the curtain) as our table for shows.
Q. Will we require additional staff for clean-up after the event?
A. No, our events are mess free! We clean-up after ourselves when we’re finished. The Mad Scientist will need about 30 minutes time for packing and cleaning-up after the event.
Q. How long in advance should I begin to plan for a Mad Science event?
A. As soon as possible! Mad Science special events are in great demand; we suggest that you book your date as soon as possible. Our busiest time for school assemblies is during the winter - January through March.
Q. Will you do a shorter show upon request? Are shorter shows less expensive?
A. We can customize shorter shows. These shows cost the same as our normal presentations for several reasons. We still have to transport and set up the same amount of equipment. Also, abbreviated shows are actually much more difficult to perform than full length shows, as there is less time for the kids to settle into a routine. Booking a shorter show can also limit the content presented: for safety reasons there are certain things we will not demonstrate interactively until we know that children are "with us".
