Information - Mad Science Shows

Mad Science shows are flexible and can be customized to suit your needs, schedule, budget, or audience size.

Our science shows are perfect for kids and can be held at the location of your choice. Events are approximately 45 minutes to 60 minutes long.

We offer the following spectacular science shows:

Mad Science Space Spectacular - Perfect for the 2019 Library Summer Reading Program Theme!

This Mad Science show is a broad introduction to the challenges of traveling in space. The mad science instructor will guide the kids through an interactive demonstration to better understand how huge the universe really is. (Do you KNOW how long it would take to go visit Pluto?) They will experiment with air pressure and watch as an "astronaut" enters a vacuum chamber. Children will learn about the Laws of Motion and Gravity, and see how these ideas shape space travel. Kids experiment with retro-rockets and watch someone shoot across the room on our Rocket Car. This show is intended for libraries only.

Fire and IceChildren will be dazzled and entertained as they interact with our Mad Scientists!  Get ready for some sizzlin’ excitement! Learn about the amazing properties of fire and combustion. Then, cool off with spectacular demonstrations involving dry ice! Check out the “Big Burp”, the “Spoon Sizzle” and the famous “Mad Science Shower”, as we will explore the science behind this amazing frozen gas. Children will be amazed as they learn about chemical reactions and the states of matter.

Up, Up and Away! This spellbinding special event introduces children to the principles of air and pressure.

You think homework is pressure? Just wait until you learn how the weight of the earth’s atmosphere pushes down on you with the force of two elephants! Explore how Bernoulli’s principle creates enough lift to make a jumbo jet fly or how air pressure can be used to launch a hot air balloon. Watch in amazement as our vortex generator creates giant smoke rings. Want even more pressure? Watch as a chemical reaction creates enough pressure to shoot objects through the air. Mad Science shows are fun and educational and this program will leave you flying high!

Sounds Like Science Want to hear some good vibrations? Our sound show explores how sound is made and how we hear it. Everyone will be shocked as we create a dinosaur roar with simple materials. The Mad Scientist will create crazy cacophony with a garbage can, a swinging sound tube and a metal pipe!  Explore the science of speakers with us as we create a funky disco show with magnets and your skull! You’ll really “rock out” with this supersonic audio experience.

Marvels of MotionIsaac Newton would be proud!  Come explore his laws of motion with us in this abundantly engaging physics performance. Observe the power of all sorts of forces including gravity, centrifugal force, inertia and much more. Then we’ll harness the power of these forces together to create astonishing jet packs and even a rocket-propelled car! This Mad Science show is sure to please everyone and inspire more imaginative learning in all of our audience members!

Summertime Rocket Show(Only available May-August)
Take to the skies as this introduction to rocketry explains how and why rockets fly. You’ll witness real model rocket launches that soar several hundreds of feet into the air and deploy parachutes for their return.
(Outdoor show only. If weather is inclement Mad Science will send a substitute show).

Jurassic Encounters Show(Outdoor or large room only)
This show helps explain what we know about dinosaurs and how we know it. Children
will examine and compare dinosaur bones and teeth with teeth and bones from animals that are alive today. They will learn about herbivores, carnivores, and omnivores - and how we can know which of these a dinosaur was without ever watching it eat.

This show also includes a visit from "Fluffy", our 6-month old baby T. rex. A life-sized dinosaur encounter is something participants will NEVER forget. Fluffy participates in the show, and can stay afterwards for a photo oportunity like no other!

Basic Program Information

Each fun, interactive and educational show is approximately 45-60 minutes long (your choice), and requires access to electricity and water.  We require 60 minutes before the first show to set up, and 15 minutes between shows to reset.

Our science shows are limited to approximately 175 children per show in order to maintain the interactive nature of the program.  We prefer to have the kids sit on the floor for the same reason.

During the show all of the students are actively involved with touching, smelling, listening to, and even tasting some of the demonstrations. Volunteers from each classroom help in the presentation of the show - a great way to build self-esteem and social skills.

Pricing Information

$450 for the first 45-60 minute show
$350 for each additional show on the same day

Additional fees may apply for evening or weekend shows.
Travel fees apply if the event is held outside of Rockland, Orange, Sullivan, Ulster, Dutchess or Putnam Counties.

Mad Science is often paid via BOCES.

BOCES funding requirements vary from county to county, but we have consistently received funding for Mad Science programs in every county we serve.

If you are not completely satisfied with the program, then we will not accept any money. No questions asked, no hassles. You must be completely satisfied with the program or it costs you nothing. Period.
